Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why am I being billed if this is a
volunteer ambulance service?
A: Though our crew members are volunteers they are paid volunteers. We also have huge overhead costs such as ambulance purchase
and maintenance, equipment purchases, supplies, facility costs, fuel etc. Charging a fee is how we pay for
the costs of running the
ambulance service.
Q: Can I pay my bill with a credit
card?
A: At this time we do not have the option for credit card payment. If you need to speek with someone about your outstanding bill
please call our office at 509-684-8261.
Q: I do not have any insurance. Can you write off my ambulance bill?
A: We do not write off ambulance bills. Due to Medicare and Medicaid laws we have to charge every patient equally. If we
lower one bill we would be required to lower everyone's bill.
Q:I want to be a paramedic, does SCSA employ any paramedics?
A:No
Q:What is a paid volunteer?
A: Our volunteers get paid for every run the go to. But they do not get paid for just being on call. A volunteer may sign up for a shift and get no runs. If that is the case the do not get any pay.
On another day the volunteer may get 2 or 3 runs and get paid
accordingly. The rate of pay varies for the level of skill/training that the volunteer has.
