Sheriff’s Ambulance Newsletter

May Extra 2010

Since we didn’t get to have a crew meeting after our May In-Service I need to share the following information.

We are in dire need of crew members to fill shifts this Memorial Day weekend.  At last count there were 15 open shifts for the coming weekend.

All SCSA crew members need to complete the (NIMS) IS-100 & IS-700 classes as soon as possible.  They are available on line and we will be providing a study group.  Please contact Julie in the ambulance office for further information on this.

Donkey Softball with the Eagles Club is coming up fast, June 5th with a family BBQ & Potluck to follow.  Please sign up in the crew quarters.

The WESAVE yard sale is Saturday June 19th.  Volunteers are needed to prepare for and work during the sale.  There is a signup sheet in the crew quarters.  This is a fund raiser for the WESAVE cause.  That means for the benefit of all SCSA crew members.

We are now part of an on call group for ambulance transport services during disaster situations anywhere in the continental United States.  This a FEMA/AMR partnership network for immediate deployment of Para-transit (buses) and ambulance transport services.

Ambulance transport units are called out during disasters and other events several times a year through this system and transport services have been called out from 48 states.  Crew members are paid an hourly wage plus overtime for hours over 40 per week from the time they are deployed until they arrive home.  In a week, 168 hours, it would be possible to earn over $3,500!  To be on the SCSA call out list for this you must complete the USDOT Driving Course, turn in your IS-100 & IS-700 (NIMS) completion certificates to the ambulance office and must be an active, compliant SCSA primary crew member.  Crew members who are currently filling weekend, holiday, special event and extra ambulance shifts will be given priority during call outs.  If you are interested in being on the call out list please contact me (Bill) in the ambulance office 685-0767, cell 675-4711 or bill@sheriffsambulance.org .

The BLS Evaluator class will be scheduled near the end of June.  The other classes have not been scheduled as yet but will be soon.  I will keep you posted on these.

Thank you, Happy & Safe Holiday
