Sheriff’s Ambulance Newsletter

March 5th 2010

The EMT-B class is finishing up this week!  Congratulations to all students and good luck on the NREMT exam J

Thank you to all who spent countless hours helping Terry with this class.  All 12 students from this class have also completed the U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Vehicle Operator Course.  Third Party Riders from this class who have successfully interviewed to join SCSA can now drive the ambulances to the scene (code or not) and from the hospital back to the ambulance center with the approval of the primary crewmembers.

EMS training this month includes; EMS Live @ Nite (“So now what do I do?” case studies) March 9th at 1845 hrs and our monthly In-Service, an OTEP (Special Healthcare Needs Kids) March 10th at 1800 hrs followed by our monthly crew meeting.

During our February crew meeting, in compliance with our Policy & Procedure manual, nominations were taken from the floor for a two year Advisory Board position, currently held by Norm Spurgeon.  There were two nominations, Barb Cartwright and Joe Pittelkow.  Norm did not wish to be re-nominated for the position at this time.  An election by sealed ballot will be held during the March crew meeting.

In an effort to keep SCSA in compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) we need to make sure that all SCSA Primary crewmembers and Team Rescue crewmembers have completed the ICS-100 and IS-700 Introduction to Incident Command Systems classes.  If you have completed either or both of these classes please let the ambulance office staff know and bring us a copy of your completion certificate.  Both of these classes are available on line.  There will be more information to follow at this month’s crew meeting.

Reminder; As a Primary Crewmember with SCSA you are expected to cover 3 primary and 3 backup shifts each month.  Also, remember that you need to cover a backup shift for every scheduled primary shift you request. This does not apply to shifts that you cover that were open after the schedule was printed and posted at the first of the month (highlighted in yellow).

W.E.S.A.V.E. will be having another “Yard Sale” this late spring or early summer (the date is not decided as yet) so, anyway, if you have items you would like to donate please bring them down to the Ambulance Center garage area and we will store them for the big sale!

Thank you for volunteering with your local EMS agencies. Remember, you the well trained pre-hospital volunteers are the backbone of our successful tiered response EMS system J
