Sheriff’s Ambulance Newsletter

April 5th, 2010

EMS Training this month includes; 4/13 EMS Live @ Nite (Street Drugs) 1815 hrs, 4/14 the SCSA monthly training night will include a review of ILS Drugs and the 1st half of the U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Vehicle Operator Course.  This course will be required of all SCSA personnel who operate SCSA vehicles.  The second half of the class, objective driving & cone course will follow at a later date.  The entire class will be repeated at a “not too much” later date.

From SEI Terry; there will be a Rhythm Recognition / Defib Class in the SCSA Training Center as soon as possible directly following the arrival of the EMT cards for the new EMT-B class.  Anyone wishing to become a CPR instructor, there will be an Instructor-Trainer class soon.  Contact Terry Gordon for information on this class (684-8328 or 675-1799).

Congratulations and Welcome Aboard Matt Bauer, our newest SCSA Primary Crew Member!

Fire Departments, Fire Districts & EMS Agencies; please remember to send one or more representative(s) from your agency to the AFG/FEMA Grant workshop(s) in Colville at the SCSA Training Center tomorrow April 6th at 1200hrs or 1830hrs.  These are great informational workshops for completing a successful grant application.

Congratulations to Barb Cartwright for a successful campaign!  She has been elected to a two year Advisory Board position.

From the SCSA Janitorial staff; the refrigerator in the crew room is getting very full. We will be doing a major cleaning on Friday April 9th. If you want to keep anything in the fridge make sure it is marked clearly or take it home with you. Thank you

From the SCSA Administrative Office Staff; the hospital lab asked us to remind the ILS members that if at all possible to please fill all the blood tubes provided in the correct order. The most important tube is the purple but, it MUST be filled last. This is due to the blood properties and the additives in each tube. (See the cards in each ILS bag for the correct filling order).  Please take a look at the new style of Epi Pens that are now being carried in the Ambulances.  805 still has the old style onboard. All other ambulances are carrying at least one of the new style. They operate similarly but now are oval shaped, have a blue cap to remove and an orange end where the needle is. Check them out!  Also, FYI Ipecac no longer stocked in the ambulances. Thank you!

Special Events; there are several Special Event ambulance requests posted on the board in the crew room including DNR pack tests and Vehicle Races at the N.I.D.R.A. track near Northport.  Remember, once you sign up you are responsible for covering that event.

If you are interested in attending any of the following classes, there will be a sign up sheet soon in the crew room.  Exact dates have not been set as yet.  There will not be a charge for these classes; they will be funded through an AFG/FEMA grant awarded to SCSA.   SCSA personnel will have 1st priority.

The classes include; EMS Evaluator (must have completed one re-certification period) (25 students), ACLS for the EMT (50 students), PHTLS (50 students) and EMT-ILS (requires EMT-B status for one year) (15 students).

Thank you for volunteering with your local EMS agenciesJ
