Sheriff’s Ambulance Newsletter

January 7, 2011

Happy New Year!      SCSA ended 2010 with 1720 runs, up 71 from 2009!

SEI Terry’s EMT-B class for 2011 begins this Saturday (tomorrow) January 8th.  The class schedule is attached to this newsletter if you are receiving it by e-mail.

Reminder; Beginning January 1st, 2011 we are required by Medicare to bill exact mileage (to the 10th of a mile) on all transports.  In other words we need exact mileage from the point of pickup to the destination.  Set the trip meter at the scene and read at the destination.

Information from SEI Terry; The January 12th, 2011 Inservice for SCSA will be a review of rhythms/defib/combitube.  Also there is a HCP CPR class for the new EMT students this Saturday January 8th.  You do not need to attend that class.  It will be the “old” CPR.  I will be learning the new CPR standards the end of the month and we will be having CPR classes starting in March or April.  Everyone will be expected to come and learn “new” CPR then.

Please let me know if you are an EMT-B and are not IV maintenance at this time.  Thank you.

EMS Live @ Nite this month is Tuesday January 11th 1845hrs to 2015hrs, the subject is “Crime Scene”.  Earlier in the day Tuesday January 11th is Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s trauma class “Pediatric Trauma” 1100hrs to 1400hrs. Both of these classes will be available in SCSA’s Training Room via telehealth.

We are now taking applications for the Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) class in February the 18th and 19th.  This is a Friday and Saturday 16 hour class 0800hrs to 1700hrs both days.  This class usually costs students over $200, but is being offered in the SCSA Training Center free of charge including text books to all students.  Please call or stop by the SCSA business office to sign up for this class.  This class is limited to 50 students so sign up early and PLEASE do not sign up if you might not be able to attend.  The class will be instructed by staff from INHS EMS Training Services and is being financed by a FEMA/AFG grant to SCSA.

Reminder; when returning vehicles to the SCSA garage area please hose them off and leave them on the wash rack until the snow and ice melt off.  Also, please mop the ambulance inside floors after each use; it’s the snowy, icy, sloppy season!

Thank you for volunteering with your local EMS agencies, because of you and your efforts the EMS system in this area works quite well.
